The story

Evenings here start on the porch. A deep, timber-post porch runs the width of the house, made for rocking chairs, summer storms and long talks after supper. Inside, the family room rises a full two stories and opens to the kitchen, so whoever is cooking is never out of the conversation. When the day winds down, the owner's suite waits on the main floor, tucked off a quiet rear hall away from the bustle.

Out back, French doors open the rear hall straight onto the yard, an easy step from the owner's suite and play room. Come home muddy and the enclosed breezeway takes care of it: boots off, laundry in, and a dog wash for the four-legged family before anyone reaches the kitchen. Upstairs, two bedrooms share a bath beside a sitting area that looks down into the family room. It is a home that works hard and still feels like a retreat.
